Part of the pleasure of travel is finding unique things that reflect the beauty of another culture. On a trip to Morocco in the early '90's, Glenn and Ellen Wunderley discovered classically beautiful wood boxes fashioned in tiny shops. These boxes, and the burled Thuja wood they were made from were so exquisite that we believed that people in the U.S., who would never have an opportunity to travel to Morocco to appreciate them, would be interested in purchasing them if they were available here. Eco-Terric's top-quality Bio-Floor™ rugs and carpets are from Earth Weave Carpet Mills. They are unlike any others produced in North America. First of all, they are completely biodegradable. Obviously, this is achieved by using only 100% natural raw materials. The face fiber is 100% natural wool.

There are no moth-proofing or stain protections applied. Only naturally pigmented wool fibers are used for coloration — as opposed to any of the harsh dyes and chemical bonding agents other carpet manufacturers use. Further differentiating this carpet, it's made with a natural "primary" of hemp and cotton. This is used instead of the typical synthetic polypropylene primary. The primary is the material that the tufting machine places the wool yarn into and acts to hold it in place.

Next in the process is the application of adhesive and secondary backing material. This further helps to lock the stitches in place and prevents slippage of the yarn. This is another area where unique techniques are applied. Earth Weave uses an adhesive that is 100% natural and bio-degradable — made of natural rubber from the rubber tree. The "secondary" (back of carpet) is made from jute, a hardy earth-friendly fiber-producing plant.

All of these elements add up to make a product that is beautiful to look at, yet sacrifices nothing in the way of our commitment to indoor air quality and the environment.

    All of our wood frames are made from sustainably grown Alder from well-managed American forests, responsibly protecting old growth and
    endangered species.
  • Reclaimed Wood Legs: Our legs are constructed from reclaimed wood, including venerable Burmese teak, harvested from rescued heirloom homes in Myanmar.
  • Non-toxic Fasteners and Finishers: Each piece of wood is fastened with steel screws, and double-doweled with non-toxic, water based glue. A combination of hemp webbing, jute, and hemp burlap finish out the frame.
  • Sustainable Comfort: The crucial and most fundamental element for our comfort evolves from the layering of wool fibers with 100% pure natural latex padding.
  • Staying true to our ancestry, our premium quality wool batting comes from regions where the soil is continually turned, pesticides are forbidden, and sheep are still herded with the use of guardian dogs.
  • Pure, Petroleum-Free Latex: The foam that both covers the frame and is used for the cushions, is natural latex, harvested from an environmentally friendly renewable resource procured from rainforest trees. This pure rubber tree sap extract is guaranteed to outlive all toxic petroleum based foam products, and is completely biodegradable!
  • Finishing Touches: We upholster these multi-layers with organic cotton/hemp canvas, a green, healthy and sensible barrier cloth.
  • Fabric: All fabrics presented with the line have been laundered in chemical-free vegetable-based laundry detergent and are either certified organic or have been produced using chemical-free base cloth and vegetable or low impact dyes
